Marcus Rashford’s Route to Staying at Barcelona and in LaLiga
The English striker has impressed Barcelona fans so much that his stay could become permanent, regardless of the obstacles posed by Manchester United, his parent club.
English forward Marcus Rashford has made a strong impression at FC Barcelona and in LaLiga, to the point where the possibility of him remaining with the Catalan giants is now very real, especially after recent developments. One particular option could unlock negotiations between the Spanish side and Manchester United, the striker’s parent club, which still owns his registration rights.
THE ROAD TO HOPE
According to Spanish outlet AS and several other Spanish media reports, the proposed solution would see Rashford remain with the Blaugrana on another loan spell, this time including an obligation to buy in 2027, when his contract with the Premier League club expires. His current loan deal is set to run until June 30, 2026, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This would mark Rashford’s second loan spell with Barcelona after initially joining the club on July 23, 2025, in a deal that has benefited all parties involved. Before arriving in Catalonia, he spent time on loan at Aston Villa from February 2 to June 30 of last year, although his spell in Birmingham failed to fully convince.
The move could become more feasible if Jarrod Bowen completes a transfer from West Ham United to Old Trafford. According to English outlets The Mirror and The Guardian, the winger is a top target for the Red Devils. However, Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC are also expected to compete for his signature, while the Hammers are looking to raise up to $134 million through player sales during the summer transfer window. Could Bowen be the key piece that secures Rashford’s future at Barcelona?
FROM COMPLICATIONS TO A MORE ENCOURAGING OUTLOOK
After Manchester United refused to lower their asking price below $35 million and remained open to offers from clubs other than Barcelona, Barça manager Hansi Flick reportedly approved Rashford’s continuation at the club. The German coach was not fully convinced by the club’s young academy options and appreciates the commitment shown by the Manchester-born forward.
Rashford himself is said to be fully committed to staying in Catalonia, even agreeing to reduce his salary and accept a longer-term contract. However, despite United no longer viewing him as part of their plans, the English club is reluctant to suffer further financial losses after the player’s market value declined. In fact, they already lowered his valuation to $35 million.
The possible departure of Robert Lewandowski could free up the funds necessary for Barcelona to retain Rashford, especially considering the club’s ongoing financial struggles, which make a permanent signing in 2026 difficult.
That is the current landscape surrounding the forward, who enjoyed an outstanding campaign with the Blaugrana, recording 14 goals and 14 assists in 48 appearances while helping Barcelona win LaLiga and reach the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.
THE WORST-CASE SCENARIO
Although everything appears to be lining up for Rashford to stay at Barcelona, a return to Manchester United under Michael Carrick has not been completely ruled out. The English club still holds the final say, especially because Barcelona could be forced to release the player if financial or contractual conditions prevent them from keeping him, regardless of how well he performed this season.
On top of that, a strong transfer offer from another club could ultimately decide Rashford’s future, even if the player himself is not fully convinced by a move elsewhere. The big question now is: what will happen with Rashford in the coming weeks?
