Open Warfare: Javier Tebas Responds to Real Madrid and Asks Fifa to Install a New Refereeing System
Javier Tebas sparked controversy against Real Madrid: he denied responsibility for anti-doping, questioned their reports on referees, and warned that their narrative “damages the competition.”
Javier Tebas responds to Real Madrid and sparks controversy
LaLiga president Javier Tebas has reignited the controversy with Real Madrid. During the presentation of Panini's new sticker album, the executive was questioned about the report that the Merengue club plans to send to FIFA to denounce what they consider to be systematic refereeing errors.
Tebas was categorical: “If the report only compares Real Madrid with Barcelona, it is biased. We have data from 2005 onwards on penalties, red cards, everything. You have to be very careful with what you say because it damages the competition.”
Criticism of RMTV and defense of Spanish refereeing
The president of LaLiga did not hold back and directly questioned the editorial line of Real Madrid TV, accusing the club's channel of fueling a dangerous narrative. “We are in an era of very dangerous storytelling. We cannot create the idea that refereeing is biased,” he said.
On the controversial sending off of Dean Huijsen against Real Sociedad, Tebas insisted that the solution lies in improving the use of technology: “I prefer the Primera RFEF model, where coaches have two reviews per game. If something like this were to be implemented in professional soccer, we would put an end to a lot of controversy.”
The anti-doping test that delayed Madrid
Real Madrid's training session in Valdebebas was delayed due to a surprise anti-doping test on the eve of their Champions League debut against Marseille, causing unrest among the team. Tebas categorically denied any involvement by LaLiga: "We have never known when they are going to carry out tests, nor do we have any authority in this matter. It seems that LaLiga is to blame for everything, but that is not the case."
He also called on the press to verify information before publishing it: “Bad information generates unnecessary noise. I recommend that everything be verified, even if it comes from Real Madrid.”

A war that seems never-ending
Tebas' statements reignite the cold war between the president of LaLiga and Florentino Pérez. With the Champions League just around the corner, the atmosphere surrounding the club is heating up again. What is clear is that the tension between the two institutions continues to escalate and promises new chapters in the coming weeks.
