León, led by Colombian World Cup star James Rodríguez, defeated San Luis 2-1 on Sunday, solidifying their position as the undefeated leader of the Liga MX Clausura 2025 tournament at the end of Matchday 7.
A Solid Leader and a Dramatic Finish
Colombian Steven Mendoza put Eduardo Berizzo’s squad ahead in the second minute, capitalizing on a pass from Andrés Guardado. However, Frenchman Sebastien Salles-Lamonge equalized in the 22nd minute with a header.
San Luis, managed by Spanish coach Domenec Torrent, had periods of dominance in a match where both teams missed key scoring opportunities. As the match neared its end, at the 90+8 minute mark, Salles-Lamonge missed a penalty, sealing León’s victory. The team now boasts six wins, one draw, and 19 points, three ahead of América and Tigres UANL, who sit in second and third place, respectively.
In a thrilling match, Necaxa defeated América 3-2 on Friday with a 99th-minute goal from Colombian Kevin Rosero, who cut inside the box and finished with his left foot to secure the win. José Paradela and Diber Cambindo also scored for the team led by Argentine Nicolás Larcamón, while Spaniard Álvaro Fidalgo netted both goals for André Jardine’s squad.
With his goal, Cambindo remains the league’s top scorer with seven goals, followed by Chilean Víctor Dávila (América), Colombian José Zuñiga (Tijuana), Argentine Juan Brunetta (Tigres UANL), Venezuelan Jhonder Cádiz (León), and Brazilian John Kennedy (Pachuca), all with four goals.

On Saturday, Tigres UANL defeated Cruz Azul 2-1, with a decisive goal from Brazilian Joaquim, while on Sunday, John Kennedy shined with a brace to lead Pachuca to a 2-1 victory over Pumas UNAM, pushing the Tuzos into fourth place in the standings.
The matchday concluded with Monterrey securing a 4-2 victory over Querétaro, with goals from Jesús Manuel Corona, Ricardo Chávez, Argentine Germán Berterame, and Spaniard Óliver Torres.
