Scandal in Monterrey Ended with Canales in the Hospital
Different media outlets in Mexico and Spain have reported on an alleged confrontation in Monterrey that ended with Sergio Canales in the hospital after a heated argument with Martín Demichelis
Eliminated by Vancouver Whitecaps prematurely in Concachampions and sitting in ninth place in the Liga MX, Monterrey is not having an easy start to the season, and tensions within the locker room are starting to grow. It has recently been revealed that Sergio Canales had to go to the hospital after having a heated argument with Martín Demichelis just days before receiving the visit from Chivas Guadalajara.

The tension in Monterrey is unbearable
With Sergio Ramos in the stands after his red card against Pumas, Rayados was unable to overcome Tijuana in Monterrey, a team that had only won two matches until then, in the latest round of the Liga MX after the international break. This situation only served to increase the tense atmosphere around the figure of Martín Demichelis, who seems to have lost the locker room.
According to various media outlets in Mexico and Spain, Demichelis had a heated argument with Canales, who was left extremely angry and, in frustration, hit a glass door, injuring his foot and causing a wound that required 10 stitches to stop the bleeding. Obviously, unless a miracle happens, Canales will not be able to play in the match against Chivas. That means Monterrey will be without their top scorer this season.
Former Real Madrid coach as a replacement for Demichelis?
On this matter, Martín Demichelis spoke out and didn’t avoid the reporters’ questions after training to explain his relationship with the locker room: “Put whatever title you want. In every sport, in every locker room, there are always these changes of opinion. I’m not authoritarian; I like to listen and let the players express their opinions to come to the best conclusions. We know what’s at stake this weekend, and we want to represent the institution as it deserves.”
Martín Demichelis is aware that his future in Monterrey hangs by a thread. In fact, RÉCORD has reported that the Rayados board has already contacted Julen Lopetegui, former coach of Spain and Real Madrid, with whom they have reportedly reached an agreement to take over the team next season. However, a loss to Chivas this round could speed up the process, especially since Lopetegui is without a team after being dismissed midseason by West Ham.
