Of all the offers Sergio Ramos had on the table, the one he ultimately accepted was from Rayados. The former Real Madrid player is now a new member of Monterrey.

But what led him to choose the Mexican club? Sergio Ramos revealed it himself in an interview for his new team.

“I’m very familiar with the culture because I have many good friends in Mexico, I’ve visited it for many years, and well, it was a market, a country that attracted me a lot,” the Spanish center-back began.

“I didn’t know Monterrey, but the structure of the club, the ambitions, the objectives, are things that, in the end, give me a balance that I was looking for,” Ramos added.

“I think Rayados offers me that opportunity for balance in everything we were looking for that no one else had offered me. A balance in the market, in the country, in the city of Monterrey, and the fans, who everyone has spoken highly of. Also, on a family level, the city, teammates like Lucas, Oli, Sergio Canales, and Mister Martín,” Sergio Ramos explained.

“I think feeling loved is always very gratifying, and when you know you’re going to a team where you share the dressing room with people you know, with a club with many ambitions, a city that everyone speaks so well of, and with a great fanbase, I think it’s the perfect mix, the balance we were looking for.”

The Spanish defender also mentioned that initially, both sides’ expectations were far apart, but they managed to reach an agreement.

“They had one objective, and we had another. In the end, we found a meeting point where both sides were very comfortable, very happy, and excited to start a very ambitious project, but I believe that both sides will be very, very satisfied,” concluded the new high-profile signing of Liga MX.
