Ferran Torres’ move to Paris Saint-Germain is still far too recent for a definitive verdict, but his first weeks in Paris could hardly have been more productive. The Spain forward joined from Barcelona on August 15, signed through 2031 and took the No. 9 shirt. Five competitive appearances later, he already has six goals.
Have PSG Struck Gold With Ferran Torres?
Six goals in his first five competitive appearances, a brace on debut and a Champions League hat-trick: the Spanish forward has made an immediate impact since joining Paris Saint-Germain.
Torres made his PSG debut on August 23 away to Rennes, entering at halftime with his new team trailing 2-0. He scored in the 71st and 82nd minutes to rescue a 2-2 draw. PSG later noted that he became only the third player in club history to score twice on his first appearance, after Zlatan Ibrahimović and Patrick Mboma.
He did not score in the following league games against Lille and Monaco, but his next breakthrough was emphatic. On September 9, Torres scored a hat-trick as PSG opened its UEFA Champions League campaign with a 6-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava. Four days later, he struck again, scoring in the fifth minute of a 1-0 win at Brest — PSG’s first Ligue 1 victory of the season.
Six goals in five appearances
The early numbers are striking: six goals in five competitive matches across Ligue 1 and the Champions League. He has found the net in three different games, with the Rennes brace directly rescuing a point and the Brest goal delivering all three.
The form also has context. Torres arrived after completing the most prolific season of his Barcelona career. In 2025-26, he made 49 competitive appearances and scored 21 goals. Barcelona’s historical player database lists him with 65 goals in 206 official matches for the club.
Why does he fit Luis Enrique’s PSG?
Torres already knew Luis Enrique from their time together with Spain. His flexibility is another obvious attraction: he has experience operating as a center forward or from either wing, giving the coach several ways to use him across the attacking line.
So far, though, his biggest contribution has been simpler: goals. The brace at Rennes showed his ability to change a game from the bench, the European hat-trick provided an explosive statement, and the early winner at Brest decided a tight league match.
Saying PSG has “struck gold” in September would be premature. But the question is already legitimate. A player coming off a 21-goal season at Barcelona has opened his Paris career with six goals in five appearances. For now, PSG’s new No. 9 is providing immediate production.
