Major League Soccer (MLS) announced on Wednesday that it has opened an investigation into Casemiro's recent transfer to Inter Miami after allegations surfaced that the club may have initiated negotiations with the Brazilian midfielder before receiving the proper authorization.

In an official statement, the league said it is gathering all relevant information related to the case and will not provide additional comments until the review has been completed. The investigation follows a complaint filed by LA Galaxy, which claims Inter Miami contacted the player before following the league's established procedures.

Discovery Rights at the Center of the Investigation

The dispute revolves around the MLS discovery rights system, a league mechanism that allows clubs to claim exclusive negotiating rights for an international player before any other team can pursue a deal.

In this case, LA Galaxy held the discovery rights to Casemiro, meaning any other MLS club interested in signing the midfielder first had to negotiate with the Los Angeles club before approaching the player.

The league also confirmed that Inter Miami and LA Galaxy have since reached an agreement regarding Casemiro's discovery rights. However, the terms of that agreement will remain undisclosed until the league completes its investigation into the alleged tampering.

Inter Miami Await Casemiro's Arrival

While the investigation continues, Inter Miami officially announced the signing of Casemiro, who agreed to a contract running through May 2027, with an option to extend the deal through the end of the 2029 season.

The club has not yet revealed how it plans to register the Brazilian midfielder on its roster. Inter Miami currently has all three Designated Player spots occupied, a mechanism that allows clubs to sign high-profile players whose salaries exceed the league's salary cap.

In addition to the ongoing investigation, Casemiro must also obtain his work visa before becoming eligible to make his official debut in the United States.
