Manchester United have completed a major overhaul of their midfield by signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, investing close to €100 million as Michael Carrick continues reshaping the squad following the club's return to the UEFA Champions League.

The biggest signing is Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos, who joins from Chelsea in a deal worth €56 million. Regarded as one of Brazil's brightest young talents, Santos said he is excited to work under Carrick, believing the former England international is the perfect coach to help him reach the next level.

Santos has already made his unofficial debut during United's preseason match against Wrexham, starting in a double-pivot role. Despite the defeat, Carrick praised several positive aspects of the midfielder's performance.

United also secured the signing of Youri Tielemans after triggering the Belgian international's €41 million release clause at Aston Villa. Tielemans brings Premier League experience, technical quality and leadership, adding balance and creativity to the heart of the midfield.

Before completing these transfers, United considered several other options, including Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, Éderson and Mateus Fernandes. Ultimately, the club chose Santos and Tielemans as the players best suited to lead the new-look midfield as the Red Devils prepare for a season back among Europe's elite.
