Luiz Henrique, Botafogo Star and South America’s Best Player, Returns to Europe with Zenit
Zenit St. Petersburg has officially announced the signing of Brazilian forward Luiz Henrique from Botafogo, who was named South America’s Best Player in 2024. The 24-year-old has signed a four-year contract with an option for an additional year.
The Russian champions, currently sitting second in the league behind Krasnodar, reportedly paid around $33 million for Luiz Henrique, according to media reports. While at Botafogo, the forward played 55 matches, scored 12 goals, and provided 6 assists.
A Return to European Football
This move marks Luiz Henrique’s return to European football after a previous stint with Real Betis two seasons ago. The player has already joined Zenit’s training camp in Qatar, where he successfully passed his medical exams.
Recent Success with Botafogo
A product of the Fluminense academy, Luiz Henrique became a standout figure for Botafogo in 2024, helping the team win both the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian League under Portuguese coach Artur Jorge.
Meanwhile, rumors are swirling that fellow Brazilians Artur and Wendel, who also play for Zenit, could be leaving the club soon for $10 million and $20 million, respectively. Zenit’s latest signing adds more firepower to their squad as they aim to climb back to the top of the Russian league.
