Trabzonspor Wants to Sign André Onana as Manchester United Opens Talks and Galatasaray Pulls Out
André Onana Could Continue His Career in Türkiye After Regaining His Form at Trabzonspor. His Future Is Starting to Take Shape, and One Development Could Work in the Club’s Favor.
The future of André Onana is back in the spotlight. The Cameroonian goalkeeper is currently on loan at Trabzonspor, and his performances in Türkiye have opened the door to extending a spell that appears to be working in his favor.
The Turkish club is reportedly interested in keeping him beyond the 2026-2027 season. According to Turkish-Football, the board views the goalkeeper as an important part of its project, although the terms of a potential transfer still need to be worked out.
Trabzonspor Prepare Their Move as Manchester United Remain Open to Negotiations
The deal could take shape for a fee of around $20 million. According to Turkish-Football, Manchester United would be open to selling the goalkeeper as they reshape their squad, giving Trabzonspor room to negotiate a permanent deal.
Another factor working in the Trebizond side's favor is that Galatasaray has reportedly decided to withdraw from the race and redirect its budget toward other targets, after AfricaFoot reported the club's interest in Onana. With a potential rival out of the picture, Trabzonspor would have a clearer path toward completing the deal, although no permanent transfer has been confirmed.
Onana's Numbers Strengthen Trabzonspor's Case
Onana recorded four clean sheets and an 81% save percentage across seven league matches, figures that help explain why Trabzonspor want to keep him.
The Cameroonian already knows the club's environment and the demands of the Süper Lig, two factors that could make a long-term stay easier. For the Turkish side, retaining a goalkeeper familiar with the squad could be an attractive alternative to searching for a replacement on the transfer market.

The Asking Price Will Be Key to Determining His Future
Although the situation appears to favor Trabzonspor, the $20 million valuation will be a key factor in negotiations. The club's interest and Manchester United's reported willingness to sell do not mean the two sides have reached an agreement.
If the financial terms are right, Onana could continue his career in Türkiye on a permanent basis. For now, Trabzonspor appear to be in the driving seat, but the outcome will depend on negotiations between the two clubs and whether the deal is completed during the next transfer window.
