England 'got away with it' in Andorra triumph, concedes Kane
England made it three wins out of three under Thomas Tuchel with a victory over Andorra, though their display was far from spectacular.
England captain Harry Kane said his side "got away with it" in their 1-0 win against Andorra in a performance that "wasn't good enough".
Kane scored the only goal in the 50th minute of the contest at the RCDE Stadium, in what was his 450th senior career goal in all competitions for club and country.
Despite the Three Lions winning five consecutive matches without conceding for the first time since May 1982 with their victory on Saturday, it was far from a convincing display.
Thomas Tuchel's team racked up an expected goals (xG) total of four from their 20 shots, 10 of which were on target, but rarely troubled Andorra goalkeeper Iker Alvarez.
England were booed off by a section of supporters at half-time, with Tuchel saying after the game that he was unimpressed with his team's attitude late in the second half.
Kane, who took his goal tally to 72 for England, agreed with his manager's comments, saying: "It wasn't our greatest performance.
"I don't think it's one many people are going to remember, that's for sure, but it's three points in the bag.
"But, yeah, for sure we know we can play better in all aspects, both with and without the ball.
"It's down to us now to analyse it, look back and try and learn from it because condition-wise it's going to be very similar to next summer - dry pitch, warm weather, humid."
The Bayern Munich striker tucked home with the only moment of real quality in the contest, with his goal provided by the impressive Noni Madueke.
Indeed, Madueke ended the game with team-high totals for touches in the opposition box (11), chances created (four) and successful dribbles (three).
"It [the goal] was probably our best move and we just didn't have enough of that, both with probably the runs and also the quality," Kane added.
"A lot of balls kind of overhit, out of play, and it just kind of killed our momentum, especially there in the second half."
The 2026 World Cup will be held across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
England beat Latvia and Albania in their first two World Cup qualifiers in March before the win against Andorra.
They are top of Group K, with Albania second on four points, Latvia third with three points after two games, Serbia fourth with one point from one game and Andorra bottom.
The Three Lions take on Senegal in a friendly at the City Ground on Tuesday, and Kane is hoping for a better performance from his team.
"We were just lacking quality [against Andorra], looked a bit fatigued both physically and mentally and, yeah, we got away with it because we're a good team," Kane said.
"They had a couple of half-chances where we didn't get punished. But ultimately, it wasn't good enough."
