The final matchday of Group C at the TotalEnergies CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 features two teams under enormous pressure. Egypt needs nothing short of a miracle to keep its qualification hopes alive, while defending champions Nigeria are looking to secure a place in the quarterfinals and avoid a historic group-stage exit.

The Pharaohs suffered defeats against Zambia and Malawi in their opening two matches, while the Super Falcons bounced back from their opening loss by defeating Zambia 1-0 in their second game.

Egypt Needs a Miracle

The situation for Egypt is extremely difficult.

The North Africans opened the tournament with a 6-0 defeat to Zambia before falling 3-1 to Malawi, leaving them without a point and having conceded nine goals.

To advance, Egypt must defeat Nigeria, hope Malawi beats Zambia, and also win by at least 11 goals to prevail under the tournament's head-to-head tiebreak criteria.

While qualification appears almost impossible, the Pharaohs will be determined to end their campaign on a positive note and avoid losing all three matches at a single edition for the first time since 1998.

Goalkeeper Maha Shehata could once again play a crucial role after making seven saves against Malawi, while Eman Hassan, who scored Egypt's first goal of this tournament, will try to lead the attack.

Nigeria Aims to Avoid a Historic Failure

The pressure is equally high for Nigeria.

The defending champions were stunned 3-2 by Malawi in their opening match but responded with a 1-0 victory over Zambia thanks to a goal from Asisat Oshoala.

The legendary striker reached 15 career WAFCON goals with that strike and has now scored in five different editions of the tournament, once again highlighting her importance to the Super Falcons.

Nigeria has never been eliminated in the group stage of the competition. Failing to qualify would also make the Super Falcons the first defending champions in WAFCON history to exit before the knockout rounds.

Alongside Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade will once again be a key player after delivering an outstanding performance against Zambia, winning nine duels and all three of her attempted tackles.

Nigeria Holds the Historical Edge

This will be only the second WAFCON meeting between Egypt and Nigeria.

Their only previous encounter came during the group stage of the 1998 tournament, when the Super Falcons claimed a commanding 6-0 victory.

History also strongly favors Nigeria against North African opposition. The defending champions have never lost to a North African team in regulation time at the WAFCON and have kept seven clean sheets in their previous nine meetings against teams from the region.

Everything is set in Rabat. Egypt will fight to finish its campaign with pride and keep an almost impossible dream alive, while Nigeria is playing for its reputation, its title defense, and a place in the quarterfinals.
