'Every point is expensive' in the Premier League, says Iraola
Bournemouth are looking to continue their push for a European place when they travel to Crystal Palace, who have suffered two heavy defeats.
Andoni Iraola says "every point you get is expensive" as he predicts Bournemouth will face a tough test when they travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Bournemouth earned their first win in just under two months with their 1-0 win over Fulham on Monday, ending a run of six without a victory in the competition.
They sit eighth in the Premier League table, with their hopes of claiming a European place next season still alive.
Last term, Bournemouth finished 12th with 48 points, their current tally this season, and Iraola wants his team to surpass that with a win at Palace.
"It is one of the goals that we have [to better the points tally," he told BBC Match of the Day.
"We have the first chance to beat it against Crystal Palace on Saturday. It is not going to be easy, every point you get is expensive, but we are in a good place."
Iraola also acknowledged how important it was for Bournemouth to keep a clean sheet after a long run without one.
"In the last few games, the opponents were scoring two goals, and when you concede two goals, it is very difficult to win a Premier League game," he added.
Palace, meanwhile, have stumbled in recent weeks, losing 5-2 to Manchester City and 5-0 to Newcastle United in their last two Premier League games.
That ended a six-game unbeaten streak in all competitions for the Eagles, who are 12th in the table, five points behind their opponents.
Following the heavy defeat, captain Marc Guehi acknowledged the team needed to quickly put the result behind them ahead of the run-in.
"Our mindset is that we have no excuses," he told Sky Sports. "We all take responsibility.
"We all have to look ourselves in the mirror and make sure that we're better next time. It doesn't matter where you go. Every game in the Premier League is tough, and it's important that we stand up to those challenges.
"We have to pick ourselves back up. We've got an exciting end to the season, and it's important that the next game is the most important one, and we focus step-by-step on how we can get better."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Crystal Palace – Eberechi Eze
Eberechi Eze has had a hand in 19 Premier League goals in his last 30 home appearances for Crystal Palace (12 goals, seven assists).
He also netted a brace in his only previous home game against Bournemouth in May 2023.
Bournemouth – Evanilson
Evanilson has scored six goals in his last nine away Premier League appearances for Bournemouth, and, with Justin Kluivert scoring 10 away goals this season, 2024-25 is the first campaign to see two Cherries players find the net five or more times on the road in the top-flight.
MATCH PREDICTION: DRAW
After winning five consecutive Premier League games against Bournemouth between May 2019 and May 2023, Palace have now failed to win or even score in their last three against the Cherries (D1 L2).
Bournemouth have kept a clean sheet in their last three Premier League games against Palace – only against Swansea City have they had a longer run without conceding in the competition (four between 2016 and 2018).
The Eagles are in good form at Selhurst Park, though. They have won each of their last three home Premier League matches, with their only run of four home wins in a row in the competition coming in April/May last season.
In fact, in all competitions, Oliver Glasner has won 13 of his 26 home matches as Palace manager, a win ratio of 50%. Of managers to take 20+ games at Selhurst Park, this is the best win ratio since Iain Dowie won 32 of 61 home games between 2003 and 2006 (52.5%).
Bournemouth have scored 32 away Premier League goals this season, with only Liverpool scoring more (40). It is their most in a top-flight campaign, with 27 being their previous most from last season.
