Inter 2-0 Como: Title-chasing Nerazzurri ease past lowly visitors
Inter extended their winning run over Como to eight Serie A matches to move three points behind leaders Atalanta with a game in hand.
Inter kept pace with the leaders at the Serie A summit with second-half goals from Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram earning them a 2-0 win over Como at the San Siro.
The Nerazzurri's triumph moved them on to 37 points in the standings, three points behind leaders Atalanta with the luxury of a game in hand over Gian Piero Gasperini's side.
A dominant first half from Inter came without reward, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan combining neatly with Denzel Dumfries before the latter blazed his effort over the crossbar.
Simone Inzaghi's side almost found the breakthrough three minutes before the break, but Federico Dimarco's tame strike was easily gathered by Como goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
But the hosts found the goal their performance merited shortly after the restart when Hakan Calhanoglu's pinpoint corner was met by the head of Augusto from close range.
The victory was sealed in second-half stoppage time as Thuram gathered Piotr Zielinski's pass before rifling a fierce effort beyond the grasp of Reina at his near post.
Data Debrief: Inzaghi and Inter march on
After the derby defeat against Milan, Inter have now won nine of their last 11 league games, and their performance on Monday further proved why they will be challenging to retain the Scudetto this season.
They have now won all of their last eight Serie A matches against Como, and only against Pescara (eight) do the Nerazzurri have a longer winning streak in the competition.
Inter's triumph was helped by master craftsman Calhanoglu, who notched the assist for the opening goal. He has now been involved in 150 goals across Europe's top five leagues (76 goals and 74 assists) since his Bundesliga debut in 2013-14.
Only Kevin De Bruyne (223), Marco Reus (172), Angel Di Maria (170) and Dimitri Payet (162) have reached this total in that timeframe playing as a midfielder.
Thuram also continued his fine form, registering his 22nd goal involvement (18 goals, four assists) in Serie A in 2024, the most in the division alongside Charles De Ketelaere.
