Eintracht piles more misery on Sahin's Dortmund
The pressure keeps piling up on Nuri Sahin as Borussia Dortmund suffered a third consecutive defeat, and another one on the road.
The result piles more pressure on already-embattled coach Nuri Sahin, who still enjoyed the backing of club bosses after a midweek defeat against struggling Holstein Kiel.
The visitors started brightly and had the first chance in the game but Serhou Guirassy's ninth-minute header bounced off the post.
They were then caught completely off guard nine minutes later when Eintracht broke clear and Hugo Ekitike, who launched the move, slotted in to complete it.
It almost got worse for Dortmund moments later as Ansgar Knauff also struck the woodwork for Eintracht.
Dortmund could not find a way back into the game despite prolonged spells of dominance and as it pushed bodies forward in search of a late equaliser, it was caught out again.
Oscar Hojlund added another goal in stoppage-time, his first of the season, to seal Dortmund's third defeat in three league matches this year.
Eintracht tightened its hold on third spot in the standings, where it sits on 36 points, two behind defending champion Bayer Leverkusen in second place ahead of its game against Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Dortmund is a distant 10th on 25 points.
Sahin's side has picked up just five points from nine away games in the Bundesliga this season, and has only hit the back of the net four times in those trips.
It dominated possession at Frankfurt (67.8 per cent) and had double the number of passes – 705 to its opponent's 342 – but its failures in front of goal were at the forefront once more.
Dortmund only hit the target with three of its 12 shots, with Eintracht proving more clinical.
Sahin labelled Borussia Dortmund’s performance against Eintracht Frankfurt as "shameful".
"I don't have any words right now, honestly, because it's shameful to play a game like this, or not to play a game like this and at the moment, finding the right words is really tough," he said.
"I know in my role, I have to be in front of cameras and speak, but on the other side, I'm also a human and the coach. I'm the most responsible person at this club for my team. It's completely my responsibility."
Sahin’s position as head coach has come under increasing pressure in recent months, but managing director Lars Ricken has once again expressed his trust in the 36-year-old.
"Nuri has had our backing so far, and he will continue to have it," he said. "It is his and our responsibility to get the best out of Borussia Dortmund.
"Nuri will sit on the bench in Bologna with the clear expectation that we need victories and successes now."
Dortmund travels to Bologna in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, with the club just one point below the automatic qualification spots.
