Libertadores debutant upsets two-time champion
Bolivia's San Antonio Bulo Bulo caused a boilover in its historic first foray into the Copa Libertadores, going to the top of Group H courtesy of a sensational 3-2 win over two-time champion Olimpia from Paraguay.
The hosts got their maiden campaign off to a spectacular start when Sebastian Viveros fired home a superb volley from 25 yards that found the top corner and put the competition debutant into a 30th-minute lead.
Things became even more dramatic in the second half.
First Olimpia equalised through Hugo Adrian Benítez on 64 minutes with a perfectly executed trivela before Luis Rene Barbosa Quiroz put Bulo Bulo in front for the second time 10 minutes laters with a dinked finish at close range, with the video assistant referee confirming he was onside after the onfield officials had initially disallowed his goal.
Richard Ortiz nonchalantly equalised again for the visitors five minutes after that, but a stoppage-time penalty gave Julio Herrera the chance to win it for Bulo Bulo, and he made no mistake from the spot with what turned out to be the last kick of a thrilling contest.
