Velez Sarsfield cruises into Copa knockout phase
Velez Sarsfield will progress to the knockout stages of the Copa Libertadores from Group H after a solid 3-0 victory at home against San Antonio Bulo Bulo.
All the goals came in the second half, the first a controversial penalty, converted by Maher Mauricio Carrizo on 68 minutes.
Michael Santos effectively made sure of the three points on 79 minutes, running on to a loose ball on the edge of the box before firing home a delicious curling strike, and Alvaro Montoro added some gloss to the scoreline in the third minute of stoppage-time.
Velez Sarsfield tops the group with 10 points and will play Penarol for top spot when they meet on the final group matchday after the Uruguayan side sealed its place in the Round of 16 with a 3-2 comeback win over Olimpia in the other match, also leaving it on 10 points.
