Barca mauls a minnow to seal Copa del Rey progress
Robert Lewandowski bagged a double as Barcelona easily defeated fourth-tier side Barbastro 4-0 to reach the Round of 16 in the Copa del Rey.
Lewandowski, who netted the winner when these teams met at the same stage last season, scored either side of the break for the visitors, who also had Eric Garcia and Pablo Torre on the scoresheet.
Against the Aragonian club that sits in the relegation zone of Group Two of the Segunda Federacion, defender Garcia headed Barca in front from a Ronald Araujo cross in the 21st minute.
Lewandowski then nodded home a Torre cross from close range to double Barca's advantage 10 minutes later.
The Poland striker added a third goal for Hansi Flick's side only two minutes into the second half with a simple low finish from near the penalty spot after being found by 21-year-old Torre again.
Torre added a goal to his two assists when he capitalised on an error from Barbastro goalkeeper Arnau Fabrega and sealed an emphatic victory to start 2025.
Barcelona's 2023-2024 Copa del Rey run ended in the quarter-finals, when it was beaten 4-2 after extra-time by eventual winner Athletic Club.
