Olmo's Barca future uncertain after court ruling
Dani Olmo may not be able to play for Barcelona from 1 January after the club's appeal for the Spain international's precautionary registration for the rest of the season was rejected.
Olmo signed from RB Leipzig in August, but was only registered for the first half of the season with Barca unable to meet LaLiga's wage cap restrictions.
The four-month allowance enabling the Blaugrana to allocate a portion of wages to register the midfielder will expire at the end of December.
The Commercial Court Number 10 of Barcelona has subsequently rejected the club's request to provisionally register the 26-year-old for the remainder of the campaign.
LaLiga welcomed the court's verdict.
"La Liga has today learned of the ruling ... rejecting the request for the provisional registration of Dani Olmo until 30 June, 2025, on the grounds that none of the necessary conditions for the adoption of an interim measure have been met," a statement read.
"The ruling also stresses that 'the purpose of allowing additional spending is so that a long-term injury does not weaken the team's competitiveness, not to use a long-term injury to allow the registration of players whose salaries exceed the limit, which is what FC Barcelona is attempting'."
Barcelona will reportedly appeal the court's decision before the deadline on Tuesday (AEDT).
Olmo, who helped Spain win UEFA Euro 2024, has played a key role for the Blaugrana this season, scoring six goals in 15 appearances.
