'This job is the hardest' - Postecoglou claims football management more difficult than being Prime Minister
After Gary O'Neil and Russell Martin lost their jobs earlier this week, Ange Postecoglou slammed today's treatment of football managers.
Ange Postecoglou believes football management is now "harder than any job", with the Tottenham boss claiming it is even more difficult than being the Prime Minister.
There have already been four managerial casualties in the Premier League before Christmas, with Gary O'Neil and Russell Martin respectively departing Wolves and Southampton earlier this week.
Martin was dismissed following the Saints' 5-0 home defeat by Postecoglou's Tottenham, just over six months after leading them back into the top flight.
Steve Cooper also lasted just five months at newly promoted Leicester City, while Erik ten Hag's bittersweet spell at Manchester United has also come to an end this term.
Postecoglou has also come under scrutiny following Tottenham's mixed start to the season, and the Australian feels the treatment towards he and his peers has "crossed that line".
"Is there a good way [of sacking a manager]? I really don't know," he said. "We've lost all sorts of modes of respect in our society where guys are in jobs, and they are putting up names of who is going to replace him while they are still working.
"We've crossed that line now. You can do it any way you like and nobody is going to say anything about the fact that a man whom, whether it is Russell or Gary, I'm pretty sure 24/7 has done everything in their power... It is not for the want of trying.
"As a society, we're just so quick to throw people in the trash, and move on really quickly with no thought or care around it.
"I don't know if there's a good way or best way of handling it. That's why I've left before it ever happened to me. I kind of jump out before that comes my way, but we've crossed that line now, and I think it's open slather.
"I get people saying 'managers have always been sacked', but I just think it has gone beyond that where we forget there is a human being involved. This job is the hardest job now in any walk of life."
Postecoglou even went as far as to say football managers have a more difficult ride than the Prime Minister.
When pushed, the Tottenham boss replied: "Yes, come on. He has an election every few years, I have one every weekend. We have an election every weekend and I either get voted in or out.
"This is harder than any job because, like I said, the tenure and longevity of this role means you go into it, very few are going to come out of it without any scars."
