PSG must improve despite breaking Milan away record, says Luis Enrique
Paris Saint-Germain extended their unbeaten league run to 39 games following a 1-1 draw with Nantes on Tuesday, breaking AC Milan's record.
Luis Enrique believes his Paris Saint-Germain team still have room to improve despite already sealing the Ligue 1 title and adding another record to their name on Tuesday.
PSG were held to a 1-1 draw with Nantes at the Stade de la Beaujoire, as Vitinha saw his first-half strike cancelled out by Douglas Augusto seven minutes from time.
The result saw the Parisiens extend their unbeaten away league run to 39 matches, last losing in the French top flight in a 3-1 defeat at Monaco in February 2023.
Luis Enrique's side now hold the longest unbeaten away stretch in the history of the top five European leagues, beating the 38 set by AC Milan between 1991 and 1993.
"It's important to talk about this record and the players from that era. We are at Milan's level. We're talking about the record for unbeaten away games," Luis Enrique said.
"A team of our calibre can't afford to make mistakes. We can still improve and do even better. We should have won the match, and one small detail made all the difference."
In a slow first half, PSG found it difficult to break down Nantes' stern defensive rearguard, but found a way through Vitinha's low half-volley just after the half-hour mark.
The hosts, however, looked more aggressive after the break and deservedly levelled late on through Augusto after good work from Matthis Abline.
Goncalo Ramos went agonisingly close to netting a late winner for Luis Enrique's side, but his stoppage-time header cannoned off the crossbar.
PSG finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 1.6 from their 10 shots, but they have now conceded 20 second-half goals, the highest percentage in Ligue 1 (71%).
"I'm very annoyed because conceding a goal is always frustrating for a goalkeeper," Gianluigi Donnarumma said following the full-time whistle.
"We need to improve our ball retention so we don't lose possession. The team played a great game.
"We managed the ball well. We need to keep it up. We need to continue like this on Friday against Nice and then in the Champions League."
