Amorim calls United 'the worst' after losing again
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim said that his team is arguably the worst in the club's history after it was beaten 3-1 by Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.
Bruno Fernandes's penalty cancelled out Yakinba Minteh's early strike for Brighton in the first half, but the visitors took control in the second with Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter scoring to seal the win.
It meant the Seagulls won their third straight league match at Old Trafford, while United is 13th on the table after losing four of its past five home league games.
"We are the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United," Amorim said.
"I know that you want headlines, but I'm saying that because we have to acknowledge it and change it."
Brighton became the second team in Premier League history to record three straight wins at Old Trafford.
Only Manchester City had previously strung that number of victories together at The Theatre of Dreams, and it was a deserved victory for Fabian Hurzeler's side.
Amorim expanded on where it went wrong for United. "It's not acceptable. We can play some football but in small spaces of time, it's not consistent," he said.
"We get nervous and suffer a goal and then it's hard to turn things around. Brighton were comfortable and we have to change fast.
"You could feel it in the stadium but we can't end games like that. No matter the result, we have to be a different team in all aspects.
"It is clear [this could last for a while]. I'm not going to change how I see the game, I'm clear on that. The players are going to suffer, the fans are going to suffer, I'm sorry."
Brighton is unbeaten in six league games now, its best run since August 2022, and coach Fabian Hurzeler insists he was not surprised his team had enjoyed their afternoon in Manchester.
"We should always be confident. If you don’t come here with belief in yourself, it won't work," he said.
"We knew how United would play and you can prepare for that. We showed a very good performance and had good balance. We dominated and made good chances in the second half.
"We are proud and happy but these games only give three points so we have to keep pushing. It's special to win at Old Trafford against a club with big tradition, therefore we are happy but we have to keep working day by day.
"There is always some advice, half time is there to let players know what we need to do to win. It's only small changes and it's up to the players to win the game."
Brighton moved up to ninth with the victory, four points behind fourth-placed City.
