Amorim keen to keep Zirkzee at Man Utd
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim wants to keep striker Joshua Zirkzee at the club this month, despite reported interest from Juventus.
Zirkzee has endured a difficult start to life at Old Trafford, scoring just four goals in 28 appearances, while he was also substituted in the first half of last week's defeat to Newcastle United.
The Dutch forward was also blamed in some quarters after Harry Maguire missed a golden opportunity to bag a winning goal during his side's 2-2 draw with Liverpool - his bouncing pass was blazed over the bar by the defender.
Amorim insists he hopes Zirkzee stays for the second half of this campaign but accepts anything could happen during the transfer window.
"I want to keep Josh because he gives everything," Amorim said. "He's trying in training, but we don't know. The window is open.
"We will see what happens. We just need to focus on the performance, on training, and to take this for the next game."
Zirkzee received a warm reception from the United fans when he was introduced at Anfield, a sharp contrast to his last appearance against Newcastle.
He did not have a shot or a touch inside the box, and only managed two final third entries, before seemingly being jeered off by his own supporters in the 32nd minute.
United skipper Bruno Fernandes was in the stands for that match and was angered by the response of the supporters.
"I have never seen something like this, and it really frustrates me and annoys me because he [Zirkzee] is a player that always gives his all," Fernandes said.
"As a player that is coming into the team from a different league, he needs time to adapt, but he has huge qualities.
"He hasn't shown all the quality, but it can't be that from the first game of the season, everyone was hyping him as one of the best strikers and now everyone doesn't believe in him anymore.
"We do believe in him inside the dressing room. I would rather be myself in this position against Newcastle and not seeing one of my team-mates in that position."
