West Ham has been on the lookout for attacking reinforcements after losing Niclas Fullkrug to a hamstring injury last month.

The Germany international had already missed three months with an Achilles problem prior to Christmas, while fellow forward Michail Antonio suffered a broken leg in a car crash in December and is expected to be out for around a year.

As a result, the Hammers have swooped for Republic of Ireland international Ferguson, who has made 11 of his 13 league appearances this season from the bench.

West Ham boss Potter handed a 16 year-old Ferguson his senior debut while in charge of Brighton in 2021, and the frontman is excited to work with him again at the London Stadium.

"It feels good to be here. Seeing the stadium and being here today, I've got a very good feeling," Ferguson said after putting pen to paper on transfer deadline day.

"I can see and know how big West Ham United is. It was a big opportunity for me to come here. I know the gaffer well and look forward to working under him again.

"I want to come in and do my best for the club, score goals, and see where we get to."

Ferguson has scored 13 Premier League goals for Brighton in total, despite making just 27 starts in the top flight.

The form of Danny Welbeck, Joao Pedro and Georginio Rutter has limited his opportunities in 2024-2025, though, leading Fabian Hurzeler to sanction a temporary move.
