Boyle goal for nothing as Celtic beats Hibs
Brendan Rodgers hailed Celtic's fighting spirit and said their 3-1 win over Hibernian was down to building on past success.
The Scottish Premiership champion was behind to Australia international Martin Boyle's smart finish. Auston Trusty failed to clear his lines, and the Socceroos star coolly slotted in the opener 25 minutes in.
However, Celtic flipped the script before the break. Nicolas Kuhn brilliantly equalised, latching on to a long ball over the top from Anthony Ralston before rounding the goalkeeper.
Adam Idah then put the hosts in front on the stroke of half-time with a powerful strike, scoring in a third consecutive top-flight match for the first time since February.
Hibs started the second half strongly, but its fight was ended in the 58th minute as Reo Hatate stroked in a third for the Hoops just before the hour.
After recording their 28th win of the season, Rodgers was delighted with how Celtic responded to going behind, but never doubted it would get back into the match.
"The performance level overall was excellent," he said. "We went one behind, but we were doing so many good things in the game.
"We stayed calm. My big message was about building on our recent success, because that's what the club is all about. We want to go into [the Scottish Cup final] in a really good way. For that, we need to work.
"That's why we have success here, because we build on past success and don't settle and accept it."
Celtic's victory means it has now scored 106 goals in the league this season, netting 61 of those on home soil.
It recorded a seventh win in eight meetings with Hibs, who remain third as they continue to push for Europe, although Aberdeen could close the three-point gap to third if it beats Rangers.
Boyle shared his frustrations after the match.
“It was a tough one today – we gave ourselves a glimmer of hope but shot ourselves in the foot in the end," he said.
“I take responsibility myself; I had a chance in the first half which I should’ve scored – we knew from earlier in the season when you come here you need to take your chances or you will get punished.
“Their two goals came at a really bad time for us and gave them a lot of momentum. We were under a lot of relentless pressure, and they were popping the ball around.
“We will take it on the chin, we will analyse what we could’ve done better and how we could’ve avoided the goals."
