Fiorentina's Bove 'doing better' after collapse
Fiorentina goalkeeper David De Gea confirmed Edoardo Bove is 'doing better' after visiting his stricken team-mate in hospital. Bove collapsed during La Viola's match against Inter, prompting the game to be called off.
Bove suddenly went to ground in the 17th minute of the match during a VAR check for a disallowed Lautaro Martinez goal.
Concern from both sets of players was immediate as medical teams rushed to assist the 22-year-old Italian, and some were in tears as it became clear Bove's condition was extremely serious.
Within two minutes, Bove was taken on a stretcher to an awaiting ambulance and rushed to Careggi Hospital in Florence.
Players were asked eventually to leave the field and it was later announced that the much-anticipated match between the Serie A title contenders would be abandoned.
It was later reported that Bove was breathing on his own and had regained consciousness.
It is the second time this year that a player has collapsed during a Serie A match, after Roma defender Evan Ndicka also fell ill during his team's match at Udinese in April.
Bove is also on Roma's books, playing on loan with Fiorentina this season.
Fiorentina latest released a statement addressing Bove's condition.
"ACF Fiorentina and the Careggi University Hospital have announced that footballer Edoardo Bove, who was treated on the pitch following a loss of consciousness during the Fiorentina v Inter match, is currently under sedation and is hospitalised in intensive care," the statement read.
"The Viola player arrived at the emergency department in stable haemodynamic conditions and initial cardiological and neurological tests have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system.
"Bove will be re-evaluated in the next 24 hrs."
Club president Rocco Commisso, who is together with his wife Catherine and his family, remain in constant contact with Florence from the United States to support Bove and his family, said: "Forza Edoardo, we’re with you. You’re a strong boy with a great character. We’re reaching out to the boy's family during these moments."
