Mbappe hat-trick fires Madrid past City
Kylian Mbappe scored all three goals as Real Madrid defeated Manchester City 3-1 (6-3 aggregate) to advance to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
The LaLiga giant will face either Bayer Leverkusen or city rival Atletico Madrid, as it seeks a record-extending 16th title.
Mbappe handed Carlo Ancelotti's side the dream start in the fourth minute, latching on to Raul Asencio's long punt forward before lifting the ball over the on-rushing Ederson.
Madrid continued to dominate the game, with Mbappe beating Ruben Dias for pace and forcing Ederson into a smart save, but he was not to be denied his second soon after.
A free-flowing counter-attack saw the ball land at Mbappe's feet in the box, who then sat down Josko Gvardiol before slamming the ball into the bottom left-hand corner.
On the hour, Mbappe completed his hat-trick to round off Madrid's rout, skipping easily past Phil Foden before sending a left-footed effort beyond Ederson's grasp.
There were a few signs of life from City in the final 15 minutes - having failed to have a shot on target in the opening hour - and they were able to net a late consolation.
Omar Marmoush's free-kick cannoned off the crossbar, but Nico Gonzalez was on hand to convert the rebound, but it did little to tarnish a fantastic night for Los Blancos.
