Slot not sure Liverpool is world's best, yet
Arne Slot insists it is "far too early" to describe Liverpool as the best team in the world, despite the Reds topping the Premier League and UEFA Champions League tables.
Liverpool is six points clear at the English top-flight summit, with a game in hand on second-placed Arsenal, while it has won all six of its matches in Europe's premier club competition this term.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank said the Reds were the "best team in the world" after its 2-0 victory at Gtech Community Stadium last weekend.
While flattered by the remark, Slot believes it is premature and that his side still has a long way to go.
"I think it's far too early to say these things. We [are yet] to face a lot of teams," the Liverpool boss said. "But it's always nice to get compliments from a manager who has proved himself in the Premier League.
"When we go out there, we want to win a game. You would think as number one [in the UEFA Champions League table], it is the best position to end up at, but it is such a strange league table.
"Every week, even if you face teams lower down the table, they are the hardest team to face [because you have not faced them before]. You cannot judge the table and say who is the best right now, we haven't [played] the same teams."
Liverpool will put its 100 per cent UEFA Champions League record on the line when it faces Lille on Wednesday (AEDT).
The Ligue 1 side has already beaten defending champion Real Madrid and its rival Atletico Madrid in this season's competition, while it arrives at Anfield unbeaten in 21 matches.
"They have deserved every single point," Slot added. "They haven't been lucky with the fixtures, and that's the reason I'm so impressed."
