Lazio seals a place in Europa League's last 16
Lazio booked its place in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League by beating Real Sociedad 3-1 at Stadio Olimpico.
Mario Gila, Mattia Zaccagni and Valentin Castellanos were on target for Marco Baroni's side, which sits three points and eight goals clear of second place and is could still top the league phase.
Eintracht Frankfurt and Athletic Club sit second and third on 16 points and are all but certain to follow Lazio in skipping the play-off round.
Athletic lost 4-1 at Besiktas but should have enough points, while Eintracht overcame Ferencvaros 2-0, despite losing top scorer Omar Marmoush, who moved to Manchester City the day before the game.
The race to finish in the remaining positions in the top eight is set to go down to the wire, with just one point separating Lyon, Tottenham Hotspur, Anderlecht, FCSB, Galatasaray and Bodo/Glimt between fifth and 10th.
Viktoria Plzen beat Anderlecht 2-0 to remain in contention alongside Olympiacos, one point behind in 11th and 12th.
The race for the top 24 is also intriguing, with Porto's hopes dealt a huge blow as it was beaten 1-0 at home by Olympiacos.
The Portuguese club sits 25th, a point outside the play-off places, behind Besiktas, which is in pole position but could be caught by FC Twente when the two teams meet in next week's finale.
Roma sits four places above the dotted line but could also go out after it was beaten 1-0 by AZ Alkmaar.
