Doha 2036: Advancing Peace Through Sport and Celebrating the Olympic and Paralympic Spirit
The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has officially confirmed its participation in the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) ongoing Dialogue Phase for the selection of the host city for the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Qatar’s bid is grounded in its firm belief in Sport for Peace, leveraging sport as a powerful platform for cross-cultural dialogue, youth empowerment, and sustainable development. The proposed vision aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and reflects the country’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, unity, and long-term impact through sport.
H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the QOC and Chair of the Doha 2036 Bid Committee, emphasised:
“We believe in the power of sport to bring people and cultures closer together, to empower individuals, and to unlock human potential, especially among youth. Our participation reflects a national vision that sees sport as a driver of development and a platform for promoting mutual understanding and peace among nations.”
Doha 2036 builds on a distinguished legacy of international sport. Qatar has hosted 18 World Championships over the past two decades and delivered globally praised events such as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. Looking ahead, Qatar will host the ISSF World Shooting Championships 2026, FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, and the Asian Games 2030.
With more than 95% of the required sports venues already in place and tested, Qatar is ready to welcome the world once again. A national venue master plan ensures full operational capability, supported by a clean-energy metro system, Hamad International Airport, and over 45,000 hotel rooms - proven effective during the 2022 World Cup.
Doha’s bid focuses on legacy and impact: empowering youth through education and sport, strengthening social inclusion, driving economic diversification, and embedding environmental sustainability. Regional partnerships, inclusive programs, and knowledge-sharing are central to the Games’ long-term contribution.
If selected, Doha 2036 would mark the first time the Olympic and Paralympic Games are hosted in the Middle East and North Africa, connecting over 500 million people across the region to the Olympic and Paralympic Movements.
