Billionaire-backed Auckland given A-League licence
A-League football will return to Auckland in 2024, with American billionaire and AFC Bournemouth owner Bill Foley awarded the expansion licence.
Australian Professional Leagues announced the award of a full A-Leagues licence to Bill Foley, the billionaire founder and general partner of Black Knight Football Club, which owns Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth and shares in Ligue 1 club FC Lorient.
Foley's burgeoning sport portfolio also includes National Hockey League franchise Vegas Golden Knights, winner of the 2023 Stanley Cup.
The men's team will enter the A-League in the 2024-25 season, with the women’s team in the 2025-26 campaign.
