Bayern hoping to get Kimmich deal sorted out
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl says he is hopeful the club can get Joshua Kimmich's contract extension "over the finish line".
Bayern has recently extended the contracts of Manuel Neuer, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala, who signed his new deal which will keep him at the club until 2030 on Friday.
Kimmich's current contract, which he signed back in August 2021, is set to expire at the end of this season.
The German has made 424 appearances in all competitions for Bayern since joining from RB Leipzig in 2015, scoring 43 goals and registering 114 assists in that time.
He has helped the club win seven Bundesliga titles, three DFB-Pokal medals, six DFL-Supercups, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
"We've done our work little by little. We've had very good discussions with Joshua. With the extension, we've clearly shown what our idea is," Eberl said.
"We know exactly what we want, Josh knows what we want. Now I also hope that we can get that over the finish line.
"He wants to stay at Bayern Munich, he wants to win the Champions League. If he didn't want to stay, we wouldn't be talking."
Bayern sits top of the Bundesliga, with an eight-point lead over defending champion Bayer Leverkusen, which it held to a 0-0 draw.
Vincent Kompany's side was on the back foot for much of that game as Leverkusen pushed for a goal. Bayern managed just two shots, with both of those coming in the second half, but neither was on target.
Leverkusen is only the second team not to concede a shot on target in a Bundesliga match on record (since 2004-2005) against Bayern, previously only Wolfsburg managed this in May 2008.
Neuer was pleased with the defensive effort shown by the team though, as it ensured its lead at the top of the table was not cut by Xabi Alonso's men.
"We're happy with the result," Neuer said. "We didn't create much, Leverkusen had a good day and put us under pressure.
"It was difficult to find proper space. We're going home with a point, which is perhaps fortunate. But in the past, it's also been the other way around.
"Leverkusen started aggressively, our training in defence paid off. We had a lot of players at the back, and we did well. The important objective today was that we didn't lose the game, and we did that."
