Kane bags another brace as Bayern stretches lead
Bayern Munich eased past Werder Bremen 3-0 thanks to two goals from Harry Kane and one from Leroy Sane to go nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
The Bavarian giant failed to break through in the first half, with Kane sending a stoppage-time header wide with the best chance before the interval.
The league's leading scorer came even closer 25 seconds after the restart, rattling the crossbar with a powerful shot, but it was third time lucky for him in the 56th minute when he converted a penalty.
Dayot Upamecano thought he had headed in Bayern's second a few minutes later, but Werder keeper Michael Zetterer spectacularly palmed his point-blank effort wide.
Sane fared better seven minutes from time, tapping in a Konrad Laimer cutback to put the game to bed before Zetterer stopped efforts from Kane and Laimer as Bayern hunted a third.
He was beaten, however, for a second time from the spot, with Kane reaching 21 league goals for the season from 12 yards deep into stoppage-time, after Jamal Musiala was fouled in the box.
Bayern is on 54 points, nine ahead of defending champion Bayer Leverkusen in second, which is in action on Sunday (AEDT) at Wolfsburg.
Vincent Kompany has now led Bayern to seven straight league victories for the first time, and he will hope to match the accomplishments of the previous coach to achieve that feat.
Hansi Flick oversaw a 14-match winning run in 2020, when Bayern won a Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League treble.
