St. Pauli nabs crucial point in survival fight
St. Pauli all but secured Bundesliga survival with a 2-2 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt that left it three points clear of Heidenheim in the relegation play-off position.
Although Heidenheim can draw level with Kiezkicker, St. Pauli's plus-13 goal difference makes it virtually impossible for it to be caught on the final day of the season.
In Eintracht for the penultimate round of Bundesliga action, the visitor enjoyed a blistering start, racing to a 2-1 lead in the opening 15 minutes thanks to goals from Manolis Saliakas and Morgan Guilavogui, after Rasmus Kristensen had put the home side 1-0 up straight from the kick-off.
A tense affair unfolded until Michy Batshuayi levelled the match in the 71st minute.
Despite not holding on for the win, St. Pauli's players celebrated the point, their survival in the German top flight all but sealed.
