Boro into play-off places as Burnley is frustrated
Middlesbrough moved into sixth on the EFL Championship table to occupy the last promotion play-off space after a dour goalless stalemate with third-placed Burnley at The Riverside Stadium.
Neither side was able to gain control of a game that was dominated by defences and poor finishing.
While both sides had eight shots, few were on target, and when the best chance of the match fell to Josh Bronwnhill in the 76th minute, the Burnley midfielder skied his shot over the bar with the goal gaping, ensuring neither side would win all three points.
A single point was enough to move Boro into the play-off picture, however, but Scott Parker's Clarets could have pushed Sheffield United into third and taken over second spot behind league leader Leeds United.
But it wasn't to be on a day when many of the top sides in the division, other than Leeds, which beat Derby 1-0 to move top, failed to produce their best football.
