Coventry brings up 50 goals in win over Charlton
Coventry City maintained its 10-point lead at the top of the EFL Championship table with a 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic, and Frank Lampard's side also scored its 50th goal in the process.
Ellis Simms netted it in the 76th minute to finish off the Addicks after they had taken the lead on 13 minutes through a Harvey Knibbs strike.
But Josh Eccles pegged the visitors back five minutes before half-time and Simms put the hosts ahead one minute before the break, before completing his double in the second half.
Coventry has won 11 of its past 12 matches and has only lost once in the league all season.
"A really important and good win for us at the end of a tough week," Lampard said.
"We've had to try to manage the squad, we've got a few issues so I was really pleased after going 1-0 down to show the patience in our game, to keep going, keep probing.
"You worry when there's a clear penalty you don't get that the whole stadium sees, you worry when they block things on the line and you wonder if it's going to be one of those days.
"To be fair to the lads they kept calm, got two goals in the first half and then saw out the second half very well against a dangerous opposition."
For Charlton, conceding goals continues to be a problem, with Nathan Jones's side now having shipped 11 in its past three outings.
"I'm really disappointed with the manner of the goals [conceded] but the level of the performance I'm relatively happy," Jones said, despite seeing his side lose for a fourth straight time after losses to Wrexham, Southampton and Stoke City.
"[In the] first half we had the majority of the chances – with better decision making we'd have gone in further ahead.
"It's been tough week; Southampton, Stoke away and then the leaders away, especially when we're stretched as we are but I'm proud of the applicaiton.
"Now we have to go into December and stem the tide and come out of December in a significantly better position than we are now."
