Boro maintains push, Leeds misses shot for top
Middlesbrough maintained its charge on the EFL Championship promotion places with a 3-1 victory at home to managerless Hull City, while Leeds United missed its chance to go top of the table after a defeat to Blackburn Rovers.
The result was Boro's fourth win in its past five league games, leaving it fifth on the table and six points behind the top two.
Hull, meanwhile, is third-bottom and two points from safety.
First-half goals from Finn Azaz and Tommy Conway got the hosts going before Mason Burstow dragged one back for the Tigers in the second half.
But Conway sealed the result as he popped up to net his second with 10 minutes to go.
Elsewhere, Leeds missed its chance to go back to the top after a 1-0 defeat away to Blackburn Rovers.
Todd Cantwell's first-half penalty was the only goal of the game after Ao Tanaka had fouled Tyrhys Dolan, although Yuki Ohashi had hit the bar with a header inside the opening 15 minutes.
The victory lifted Rovers to eighth on the table, two points outside the play-off places.
Leeds is third and trails leader Sheffield United by three points after the Blades win over Sunderland 24 hours earlier.
Coventry City came from behind to claim a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Cardiff City in Frank Lampard's first match in charge.
The result was the third time in four matches that the Sky Blues have drawn 2-2 having conceded first.
Yakou Meite put Cardiff a goal up after just four minutes before Ephron Mason-Clark levelled things just three minutes later.
Cardiff was back in front three minutes into the second half through Alex Robertson, though an 89th-minute Victor Torp penalty ensured the points were shared.
The result leaves Cardiff in 20th on 17 points, two above the bottom three, while Coventry has a point more and is in 16th place.
Burnley moved up to second after a 2-0 victory away at Stoke City, which was also its seventh consecutive clean sheet.
The Clarets' success this season has been built on a solid defensive platform, with them having conceded just one goal in their past 12 league games.
Second-half efforts from Jay Rodriguez and Josh Brownhill were enough to nudge them ahead of Leeds in the table.
