Brooks beauty makes Bournemouth's run a record
David Brooks scored the only goal as Bournemouth maintained the pressure on the Premier League’s top four with a 1-0 victory over Everton.
The Wales international climbed off the bench to settle matters at Vitality Stadium with a neat 77th-minute volley.
Despite generating the greater attacking threat, Andoni Iraola's side had endured a generally frustrating afternoon as it struggled to break down the Toffees, who offered little going the other way.
The visitors had Jordan Pickford to thank for making smart saves to deny Dango Ouattara, Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo.
However, Brooks made the decisive impact for the hosts, guiding home Milos Kerkez’s cross to extend the Cherries' unbeaten streak to a club-record eight Premier League games.
Bournemouth sits seventh on the table, but move within three points of fourth-placed Chelsea, while Everton remains 16th, just two points clear of the relegation zone.
Bournemouth is now unbeaten in eight Premier League games, its longest run without defeat in the top-flight.
Both of Brooks’s Premier League goals for Bournemouth this season have been as a substitute and he was more than happy to make another significant contribution.
"Nobody really likes coming to play us here and, every home game, we go into it thinking we can win," he said.
"We have to just keep our feet on the ground and keep plugging away game by game.
"When you play Everton, especially over the past few years, you know it's going to be a physical and tough game.
"You need a bit of quality to finish it off. It's not a game with a lot of clear-cut chances, but we took one and got the three points."
Iraola echoed Brooks's thoughts, but is hopeful that his players can maintain their level of performance in the coming weeks.
"We are happy with the run of games, the results and the performances. I think we now play four of the next five against top five teams, who are ahead of us, so I hope we can continue with this level of performance," he said.
"I don't know if it is enough to beat these teams, but we will try to be competitive with the teams at the top."
Meanwhile, Everton's has now failed to score in a league-high 11 different games this season, just one fewer than it failed to score in across the whole of last season.
Abdoulaye Doucoure knows Everton's profligacy is an issue they must address as soon as possible.
"A very difficult performance," the Toffees midfielder said. "The first half was not good enough from us, and we know that. We tried in the second half to correct that, and fight more for the first and second balls.
"Unfortunately, we couldn't score, and then they scored in the worst moment of the game, because I think it was more like a draw.
"Obviously, in the Premier League, you have to compete, and it's very hard to take. Small moments can make the difference. We are going to learn and fight. Hopefully, we can bounce back.
"Goals give you wins and, at the moment, we can't find a way to score goals. That's a fact. We cannot hide from that. We need to find a way to score goals."
