Sarabia boosts Wolves' survival hopes at Ipswich
Pablo Sarabia came off the bench to orchestrate a 2-1 comeback win for Wolverhampton Wanderers against Ipswich Town at Portman Road, taking it 12 points clear of its opponent in a key six pointer.
Ipswich looked set to close the gap above the relegation zone to just six points when Liam Delap gave it the lead in the first half.
He latched on to Dara O'Shea's nod down in the six-yard box to slot a cool finish through Jose Sa's legs, with the goal standing after a video assistant referee (VAR) review.
Alex Palmer made great saves to deny Jorgen Strand Larsen and Toti but gave Wolves their clearest opening of the first half with a moment to forget.
He almost allowed a backpass to roll in and had to claw it away, giving the visitors an indirect free-kick six yards out, but Sam Morsy threw himself in the way of Emmanuel Agbadou’s shot.
Joao Gomes also rattled the post shortly after the break, but Sarabia's 65th-minute introduction turned the game around, as he nestled the equaliser into the bottom corner less than 10 minutes later.
He then set up Strand Larsen's winner, putting it on a plate for the forward to bundle in from close range to seal a potentially decisive three points in the relegation battle.
Ipswich now appears destined to return to the EFL Championship, and the result also means Southampton will be relegated if it loses at Tottenham Hotspur on Monday (AEDT).
