Douglas Luiz edging towards Juventus stay
Douglas Luiz's time at Juventus has not gone to plan so far, but the midfielder is convinced things can turn around for him in Turin.
The 28-year-old joined Juve in 2024 from Aston Villa, but has made just 27 appearances for the Bianconeri.
After struggling for regular minutes in his debut campaign, the midfielder spent the first half of the 2025-2026 season with Nottingham Forest and the second half back at Villa.
However, he has received regular game time under new Juve boss Luciano Spalletti in pre-season, and even scored in its 2-0 win over Nice most recently.
Spalletti praised Douglas Luiz's performance in the friendly, where the Brazilian played 45 minutes and completed 23 of his 26 passes.
Douglas Luiz still has three years left on his contract with Juve, and he is starting to believe he has a future at the club.
"The training camp went very well. I'm in good shape and happy with the opportunity I've been given," he said.
"I managed to score, and that’s very important to me, because this is where I want to be.
"I’m really pleased with his [Spalletti] opinion, which is obviously the most important thing for me.
"The work done over the last three weeks is making me understand things and allowing me to grow in training and in matches. I’m becoming convinced that I can stay at this club.
"Two years ago I was bought but didn’t get many chances to play. Now I’m rediscovering them, and that’s exactly what I want."
Juve has three more friendlies in pre-season, against Chelsea, Inter Milan and Palermo, before its Serie A campaign begins on 24 August (AEST) at Frosinone.
