Sabalenka pummels Pegula for first Miami title
World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka claimed her maiden Miami Open title on Sunday (AEDT)with a 7-5 6-2 win over world No.4 Jessica Pegula in the final.
Sabalenka completed the win in just fewer than 90 minutes, extending her head-to-head lead over Pegula, whom she met in last year's US Open final, to 7-2.
Sabalenka equalled Maria Sharapova with eight WTA 1000 titles, and is now only behind five other players for th most of all time – Serena Williams (13), Victoria Azarenka (10), Iga Swiatek (10), Simona Halep (9) and Petra Kvitova (9).
