Former champion Rublev, who is the No.3 seed, also passed a milestone with victory, claiming his 350th ATP Tour-level win.
“It was my best match of the week, for sure,” Rublev said.
“I think I’m playing better match by match. It helped me that Felix played a really tough match against [Alexandre] Muller last night, it finished quite late. It also gave me a bit of an advantage.”
Rublev has slipped to No.17 in the world rankings and was unable to defend his points at the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid earlier this month.
But the Russian has responded well with an impressive showing in germany and now has his sights set on his second title of the season after winning in Doha earlier this year.
