Kendrick Lamar Talks About His Super Bowl Halftime Show and 'Not Like Us' Song
Kendrick Lamar, winner of five 2025 Grammy Awards, spoke on Thursday about his participation in the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, which will take place this Sunday at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. While he did not confirm whether he would perform his hit 'Not Like Us', the hip hop artist made it clear that he would stay true to his essence as a storyteller.
His Essence as a Storyteller
Kendrick emphasized that despite the grand platforms, like the Super Bowl, his passion for storytelling remains the same as when he first began his career. This dedication to storytelling has led him to become the most popular hip hop artist of the moment:
“My narrative. I’ve always been open to storytelling in my catalog since I started. No matter the stage, I’ve always had that passion. The passion I have now is the same as when I started, that’s what brought me here.”
The Controversial Song 'Not Like Us' and His Rivalry with Drake
Ahead of his performance, Lamar also discussed the success of his song 'Not Like Us', which helped him win five Grammy Awards. This song is known for marking the peak of his rivalry with Drake, with whom he has collaborated since 2011. In the lyrics of 'Not Like Us', Kendrick calls Drake a "pedophile".
The Challenge of the Super Bowl Show
With only 13 minutes for his performance at Super Bowl LIX, Kendrick acknowledged that the main challenge would be conveying his message and energy in such a short time. Despite the limitations, he is determined to make his show something special:
“It’s a bit wild, but it will show where I’m at from my perspective of how I think about my catalog. I want to be locked in with how I feel and the energy I have right now. I want to bring that to the show and let the world see it. I want that energy to reach the people in the stadium and those watching on TV.”
