Who Is Spencer Rattler, the Netflix Quarterback Replacing Derek Carr on the New Orleans Saints?
The New Orleans Saints were forced to make adjustments at the most crucial position after losing their starting quarterback, Derek Carr, to injury. In response, they’ve decided to place their trust in rookie Spencer Rattler.
Spencer Rattler's College Football HIGHLIGHTS
The young quarterback will make his debut when the team faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday in Week 6 of the NFL.
“We talked a lot as a staff about what we felt was best for us and what gave us the best chance to win the game,” said head coach Dennis Allen via the team’s official website. “That was the decision we made, and we’re excited about his opportunity to step in. We’ll let him play and see what he can do.”
Who is Spencer Rattler, the Quarterback Featured on Netflix?
Rattler, a former five-star prospect from Arizona, appeared on Netflix’s “QB1: Beyond the Lights,” which followed his senior year at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix. He began his college career at Oklahoma but transferred to South Carolina after losing the starting job to Caleb Williams. He left South Carolina after completing 67.5% of his passes for 6,212 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions. Despite his talent, he didn’t garner much attention in the 2024 draft class, which was packed with quarterbacks, leading to his selection in the fifth round (150th overall).
Rattler has yet to play in a regular-season game, but his preseason performance (20 of 38 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown) has been enough to get Saints fans quietly excited about his potential. With Carr sidelined due to an oblique strain expected to keep him out for several weeks, New Orleans is turning to Rattler, choosing him over backup Jake Haener. When Carr was injured during Monday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Haener stepped in, while Rattler remained the emergency third quarterback. Now, he’s set to be QB1.
