Dodgers Dominate and Break Records Against the NY Mets
Despite dealing with multiple pitching absences, the Dodgers managed to crush the New York Mets with a dominant 9-0 victory. This win not only gave the Dodgers the upper hand in the National League Championship Series but also tied the MLB record for 33 consecutive scoreless innings, matching the Baltimore Orioles' streak from 1966.
While the Dodgers' pitchers set the tone, it was their offense that really made the difference in this showdown between New York and LA. Jack Flaherty was on fire, pitching seven innings and only giving up two hits. During that time, he struck out six batters, with Dan Hudson and Ben Casparius coming in to shut things down completely.
The last time the Dodgers gave up a run was during Game 3 of the divisional series against the San Diego Padres, which took place last week. Over their last three games, the Dodgers have completely dominated their opponents with a combined score of 19-0, tying the postseason record of 33 consecutive scoreless innings. You’d have to go all the way back to 1966 to find the Orioles pulling off something similar.
Sunday’s game was one of the most complete performances of the year for the Dodgers. And if you look at best-of-seven series, stats show that 64% of teams who win Game 1 go on to win the series since the format switched to 2-3-2. “All of our pitchers have done an excellent job, and they've really helped us feel comfortable offensively so we could rack up the runs,” said Ohtani after the game.
The next matchup between the Dodgers and Mets will be on Monday, October 14th at Dodger Stadium, with the Mets hoping to even the series. For the Dodgers, this could be their first appearance in the World Series since 2020, the year they took home the MLB title.
