Everything We Know About Manny Pacquiao’s Next Fight
He promised a blockbuster comeback, but the plan shifted. Now his return to the ring is raising more questions than answers.
A Comeback That Didn’t Happen as Planned
As the only eight-division world champion in boxing history, Manny Pacquiao has earned the right to announce returns that don’t always materialize. Late last year, he claimed he would step back into the ring on January 24 to face Floyd Mayweather or Rolly Romero, but that date came and went without a fight.
After that missed promise, promoters Indistry Media and Banner Promotions confirmed that the Filipino icon will indeed return — just against a different opponent. The name finalized is Ruslan Provodnikov, a former WBO junior welterweight champion who hasn’t fought since 2016.
The Confirmed Fight in Las Vegas
The bout will be a 10-round exhibition in the welterweight division, scheduled for April 18 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, investors had been searching for months to secure the right opponent for Pacquiao before settling on Provodnikov.
Pacquiao, who came out of retirement in July 2025 to face Mario Barrios, the reigning WBC welterweight champion, fought to a majority draw. He turned 47 in December, yet insists he remains focused on entertaining fans despite his age.
The Rejections That Shifted the Narrative
Before landing on Provodnikov, Pacquiao’s camp reportedly explored more high-profile options. Among them was longtime rival Juan Manuel Márquez, who declined the offer. They also reached out to Timothy Bradley, but he too passed on the opportunity.
The rejection of opponents closely tied to Pacquiao’s most memorable battles has fueled speculation about the true intent behind this exhibition. Ultimately, the fight features a boxer who stepped away from the sport nearly a decade ago.
The Theories Behind the Decision
The announcement has sparked debate. Some fans believe Pacquiao may be looking to rebuild capital following his 2025 Senate campaign in the Philippines, a political run that reportedly required significant financial investment.
Others suggest the move could pave the way for a lucrative rematch with Floyd Mayweather, who has faced multiple legal challenges and may be seeking a major payday event.
Whatever the motivation, Manny Pacquiao’s return once again places him at the center of the boxing conversation. At 47, “Pacman” continues to generate headlines — and just as many questions.
