(VIDEO) Yuki Tsunoda’s Scary Crash at the Formula 1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix
A frightening crash at Imola tested Formula 1’s safety measures after Yuki Tsunoda lost control of his car during qualifying. Thankfully, the driver escaped uninjured.
Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda was involved in a dramatic crash during the qualifying session of the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola. Despite the severity of the incident, the Red Bull Racing driver emerged unscathed, once again highlighting the effectiveness of Formula 1’s current safety protocols.
A Scare That Stunned Imola
Just minutes into Q1, Tsunoda lost control of his car while navigating the Villeneuve corner. The car spun, flipped, and violently landed in the gravel, momentarily upside down before settling back on its wheels. The impact was strong enough to bring out a red flag as marshals rushed in to assist and clean up the track.
Thankfully, Tsunoda exited the vehicle on his own and was taken to the circuit’s medical center for a routine checkup. The team later confirmed that he had not sustained any injuries, though the car suffered significant damage.
Formula 1 Safety Under the Spotlight
The incident served as a stark reminder of the crucial role played by safety innovations in Formula 1, such as the Halo device, which protects the driver's head in rollover and impact situations. The quick response from the track marshals and medical team was also key in ensuring Tsunoda’s well-being.
Tsunoda’s crash joins a list of incidents this season that underline the high-risk nature of the sport and the continuous need to improve safety standards.
