Revealed: Michael Schumacher was Taken to Switzerland to Be Present for The Birth of his First Granddaughter
A new chapter in the life of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher has come to light this week, with reports from Germany stating that the seven-time world champion recently became a grandfather. The news was shared by the newspaper Bild, which claims the former German driver was flown by helicopter from Spain to Switzerland to be present for the birth of his first granddaughter.
Millie Bethke Schumacher, daughter of Gina Schumacher, was born on March 29 in the Swiss town of Gland, where the family resides. Gina announced the arrival of the baby on her social media, marking a very special moment for the Schumacher family. According to the German outlet, this emotional occasion may have prompted Schumi, who has remained out of the public eye since his 2013 accident, to make an exceptional trip to be with his loved ones.
Schumacher reportedly flew to Switzerland for his granddaughter’s birth
Since the tragic skiing accident in the French Alps on December 29, 2013, Schumacher’s health has been kept under strict privacy. After a severe head injury, he underwent emergency neurosurgery and remained in a coma for an extended period. Since then, his family has opted to keep his current condition completely private.
If this journey is confirmed, it would mark only the second time Michael Schumacher has left his private environment since the accident. The first was reportedly in October last year when he allegedly attended — also in strict privacy — Gina’s wedding in Mallorca, where the former driver lives.
Despite the significance of these family events, no photos or videos have surfaced to prove his presence, as the use of mobile phones or cameras was strictly prohibited during both occasions.
In a recent interview with Bild, his brother Ralf Schumacher, also a former Formula 1 driver, shared emotional words: “I miss the Michael from before. This tragedy changed our family.” He also recalled how his brother was more than just family — he was his mentor, his guide, and the greatest influence in his motorsport career.
While the “Kaiser’s” inner circle continues to guard his medical condition in silence, the arrival of his first granddaughter brings a ray of hope. A new reason to keep fighting — now with a new generation carrying the Schumacher name.
