CAF postpones African Nations Championship to August 2025
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced this Tuesday that the African Nations Championship, originally scheduled for 2024, will be postponed to August 2025. The tournament will be held in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda—countries that have made significant progress in preparations but still need additional time to meet the required standards.
Progress in infrastructure and preparations
In an official statement, CAF highlighted the progress made in constructing and upgrading stadiums, training grounds, hotels, hospitals, and other facilities necessary for the tournament. However, technical experts from the confederation emphasized that more time is required to ensure everything meets the standards for hosting an event of this scale.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed gratitude to the presidents of Kenya (William Ruto), Tanzania (Samia Suluhu), and Uganda (Yoweri Museveni) for their commitment and leadership in improving infrastructure. “I am confident that the stadiums, training grounds, hotels, hospitals, and other facilities will meet the requirements to host the tournament in August 2025,” said Motsepe.
Tournament draw in January 2025
CAF also confirmed that the official draw for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship will take place in Nairobi on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 8:00 PM local time.
