The result keeps the hosts at the top of Group A, though with a bittersweet feeling, as they were unable to mathematically secure their place in the round of 16 in front of their home crowd.

Moroccan dominance and Brahim’s finishing

From the opening whistle, the team led by Walid Regragui looked to impose its authority. With Brahim Díaz as the creative hub and the attacking runs of Achraf Hakimi, Morocco pinned Mali back in their own half for the first half hour. After the break, Mali adjusted their lines and pushed higher up the pitch under the guidance of Tom Saintfiet. The Malian pressure paid off in the 64th minute, when the referee, after reviewing a foul by Jawad El Yamiq on the VAR monitor, pointed to the penalty spot. Lassine Sinayoko made no mistake from eleven yards, calmly converting to seal the final 1–1 draw.

Group A status: Everything still to be decided

With this result, Morocco remain at the top of the group with four points, while Mali move to two points after their second consecutive draw. The final matchday promises high drama: Morocco will close the group stage against Zambia, while Mali will fight for qualification against Comoros.
